VTech's Perfect Family Phone (Win One!)

I don't know who the brilliant person was who designed our house, but one thing they failed at was the placement of phone jacks. We have a grand total of two: one upstairs, one downstairs. While this is generally OK on an everyday basis, it does make it difficult to run to the phone if you happen to be on the other side of the downstairs. And should we stay in this house, can you imagine the battle for the phone with two daughters in a few years?

I was recently sent the VTech CS6129-3 cordless phone set for review. Unlike my current cordless phone, this one has a base unit with a digital answering machine, and two remote units. These two remote units don't require a phone jack - they only need an outlet for electricity. Now instead of two phones, we have three phones, giving us one additional location. I put the third phone in our kitchen, making it easier to answer the phone when making lunch or dinner without having to drop whatever I'm doing.

This phone system also has callerID, call waiting and speakerphone available. The phones can be used simultaneously, used to transfer a call from one handset to another, or be used as an intercom between the three handset locations. The transfer calls option is extremely useful - imagine answering the phone and it's someone calling for your husband, who is upstairs. Instead of yelling for him to come down, or taking the phone up to him, just transfer the call to the other handset.

I'm impressed with the clarity of calls. My old cordless sounded nearly as bad as a cell phone in a spotty area at times, but the VTech phone produces clear audio with no interference. The volume adjustment is easy to use, too. In fact, all of the different features are easy to use, with intuitive buttons and menus.

Best of all for this family, these phones are WiFi friendly - they don't interfere with the WiFi signal in your house, and they can't be heard across the baby monitor. Should someone try to listen in to your call, the phone scrambles the signal for security.

I'm thrilled with this phone, and I think it's the perfect phone for a family who needs to stay connected.

Win One!

I'm giving away a VTech CS6129-3 cordless phone set ($79.95 value) to one lucky reader! (US entrants only, sorry!) To enter, leave a comment below telling me about your current phone and what you like or don't like about it.

You can also earn additional entries in one of the following ways.

Extra entries:

2. Subscribe to my blog (this one or A Mommy Story) or let me know you're already subscribed - only one entry here, even if you're subscribed to both.
3. Write a post on your blog linking to this contest.

For each of these additional entries, please leave a separate comment. For #1 and #3, also give me the link to your tweet or blog post.

Also be sure I have a valid e-mail address to contact you if you should win. Entries will be accepted until Tuesday, February 3 at 11:59 pm EST. One winner will be chosen at random after that date and contacted via e-mail.

I actually have an old-style phone that plugs into the wall and has a cord between the receiver and the base part that rings. It isn't quite so old that it has the turn-dial thingy, it is touchtone, but it's almost that old! It's difficult to hear on, rings SO loud that it hurts my ears, and of course it isn't cordless so you have to kinda stay put when you talk on it. That's not easy to do when you have 4 kids! Anyway, thanks for the chance to win a nice phone set!

I have an older phone. Non walkabout. So I am pretty much stuck to about a one foot radius when I talk. Kids just love this and take the opportunity to go wild.

Wow; these look awesome! We just moved into a new house and we have the same problem you do - too few jacks.

I like the cordless we currently have. It has caller ID, which is really nice. But I'm always leaving it all over the house, which drives my husband nuts! lol I'd love to have one to keep in the kitchen and one to carry around.

Ack, my current phone is a 2 handset cordless motorola. Both handsets are dying and don't hold a charge very long. It's hit or miss trying to use it because it normally cuts out mid-call. I hate EVERYTHING about it right now! I would love to win this! Thanks!

Michelle Olsen Sasak said...

My set is a lot like yours in that only one of the three has to be plugged into a phone jack and it has caller id, speakerphone, and an answering machine.

However, mine is so awful about being too quiet and having interference and echo, and it does not scramble the signal. I hate it, especially when I have to keep asking people to speak up when the phone is at the highest volume.

Seriously??? I've been dreaming over this set for a couple of years! I kid you not. Our phones have taken a beating. Okay, think about this. Eleven kids, two dogs. Nuff said.

We used to have a phone jack in every room in the house, INCLUDING the bathroom, but we had to buy cheap phones. Couldn't afford better...then the wiring went bad. Two of the phone jacks quit working, and four of the phones died.

The kids have mostly moved out now, and we are down to two phones. One remaining cheap one that we can't hear very well on, and one remaining cordless one. With these nice new ones, my honey could take one out in the garage with him, and if he gets into trouble out there (he's disabled), he could beep me.

I could put one of the handsets into my daughter's room so she would quit taking my cordless. Then if she runs it out of charge and can't find it--too bad. Who knew I could get so excited over a set of phones!? You'd think they were diamond rings or something. Ha!

we have the same issue w/ phone jack placement. particularly annoying is there is no phone jack in the room we use for the office.

Our phone now sucks. It loses charge in an hour - even with a new battery!

Our current phone is similar to this, but only has 2 handhelds! I DON'T like that one of the handhelds' screens is messed up, so NO caller ID, plus we need a 3rd handset for our bonus room....
I DO like the "find handsets" option. I know it sounds silly, but hubby and I are ALWAYS laying them down somewhere and forgetting about them until we need it! LOL

my current phone is a cell phone. but we need a real phone because we will be moving to a new place and need a new phone. this looks like it would work!

Angela said...

Our phone is one of the first cordless phones. Really big and bulky and sounds like talking into a tin can. You have to pull the antenna out of the handset to be able to talk or hear anything. Obnoxious! Thanks for the giveaway!

I have a two phone set from Uniden. It works ok but I don't like the fact that if a person answers in one room, then another person cannot pick up the other phone in another room.
Thank you for the giveaway.

I don't have a home phone right now, but will need one in a few months when I start working from home some, so this would be great!

Anonymous said...

Our phone is so old is doesn't have caller id available. It plugs into the wall and the cord is so short. Thank you for the giveaway.

Anonymous said...

Wow, do I need to win this! We normally use our cell phones, but we do have a land line. And the phone that is on there...ahhhh! It's corded, it doesn't have caller id, and it was so cheap, I think I paid $14.99 for it. the receptions is awful, it's so cracky it's pathetic. Needless to say, we only use it in emergency situations, which isn't much! LOL!

Sarah said...

Okay, okay, I don't need a phone. I don't even have a land line.

BUT! My dad does, and he works in the garage ALL the time and there is no phone out there and the old man refuses to get a cell phone. Plus, when he talks on his cordless phone anywhere but 3 feet from the base it's so staticy you can't hear.

YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO HELP HIM OUT!! :)

My current phone is an old Conair landline phone and I don't like it.It would probably be better to have a cell phone nowadays but we don't, can't really afford one so were stuck with this one. I shouldn't complain at least it's useable. I do like that the lighted touchpad still works, ok being silly but it's true. Thanks for hosting this contest.skyxsky27(at)gmail.com

we've only got one phone jack :( It's pretty difficult remembering to put the phone on the hook and not letting it die. I'd love the speaker phone option as my 19mo. old is famous for accidentally hanging up on her grandparents. She just loves pushing those buttons! :) Great giveaway!

I have a Panasonic phone right now...I actually find that the battery lasts awhile - I tend to forget to put it back on the base at night and it lasts for days - but I do get some static sometimes. Overall, its an OK phone.

Thanks for the giveaway, would love to win.

The worst thing about my phone right now is that you cannot hear out of it. THe earpiece is broke and the mouthpiece is broke (or I am just not smart enough to figure out how to turn up the volume)

I have a phone system similar to that...one just went swimming in the potty during a potty training session and now we have no phones. So, the thing I hate about my phone is it not working!

My current phone situation is the pits! I have two different systems running and only one is set up with the answering machine and they all have different sounding rings which drives me batty. The battery life on all of them just doesn't seem to be holding out even though you change the batteries... Gosh, I just need a new system badly! Thanks for the chance to win one :)

My current phone has issues. Sometimes it rings but when I pick it up it's dead. I have to unplug it from the wall then plug it back in. Fortunately my family knows to try calling back after a minute if I don't answer. Thanks for the giveaway!

Our house also has only one phone jack on each floor, but we currently have a V-tech phone with a plug in base for downstairs that only requires an outlet. The only problem is that the battery on the cordless for downstairs has died and since its so old it would be more worth it to buy a new phone than to replace the battery (we just haven't done it yet)...so this would be perfect for us! Thanks for the chance to win!
